- "Wow! It's like a cave. Like a Batcave."
- —Barry Allen
The Batcave is a series of underground caverns that are used by Bruce Wayne for his exploits as the vigilante "Batman."
History[]
What became the Batcave was first discovered by Bruce Wayne on the day of his parents' funeral. As their caskets were taken to the Wayne Mausoleum, Bruce ran away from the funereal procession into the woods. As he kept running he fell down a well into a cave full of bats, that consumed him and gave him an eternal fear of Bats.
As Bruce grew older and developed the idea to rid Gotham City of the criminals and corrupt, he used the series of caves underneath Wayne Manor he fell in as a child as his base of operations. Along with his bodyguard Alfred Pennyworth, the two built up an underground armory and high tech operations area over the years, with a number of levels along with a secret tunnel entrance that leads from underneath the lake on Wayne Manor's grounds.
After Wayne Manor was partially destroyed, Bruce & Alfred installed a lift directly to the Batcave from Bruce's new home, the Glasshouse.
Following the formation of the Justice League. The Batcave was used as the League's base of operations.
