Kandor was the capital city of the planet Krypton and, at one point, the home to the planet's entire population.

History[]

Kandor had stood for thousands upon thousands of years since Kryptonian ancestors became civilized 100,000 years ago. It has greatly expanded (into a colossal megacity) over the generations, and with the constant strip mining of Krypton's surface, over time it became the only city left on the planet, with the rest a barren wasteland, except for the House of El Citadel.

The scientist Jor-El flew to Kandor on his pet H'Raka to give evidence to the Law Council of the imminent collapse of Krypton's kryptonite core (due to the millennia of strip mining), imploring them to evacuate the planet. They dismissed his ideals when General Zod, leader of the radical Sword of Rao entered the Legislation Chamber and announced his intention of overthrowing of the Law Council, and pruning Krypton of the "degenerate bloodines" that had lead to the planet's ruin. He had Jor-El taken away, while he shot councilwoman Ro-Zar, for questioning his authority. Jor-El escaped, however, and went to the Genesis Chamber, where he successfully stole the Growth Codex, before heading to his homestead outside of Kandor, persued by Zod and his radical loyalists.

Jor-El put the codex in a starcraft with his newborn son Kal-El and had Lara send it to Earth, while he died in a fierce fight with Zod. The Sapphire Guards arrested Zod and his followers and they were sentenced to 300 years of somatic reconditioning in the Phantom Zone by councilman Lor-Em. The Black Zero ship was used to transport them, after each of the radicals had been encased in a cryocapsule.

Kandor perished when Krypton's core imploded, which subsequently destroyed the planet, just as Jor-El had predicted.
