Template:Object A Mother Box is an other-worldly, cube-shaped piece of technology.[1] At least three Mother Boxes are known to exist, with them originally being owned by Darkseid, but which were subsequently left in the hands of the Atlanteans, Amazons and humans.[2]

History

First invasion of Earth

Thousands of years ago, Darkseid ordered his subordinate, Steppenwolf, to attack and conquer the Earth. Steppenwolf took three Mother Boxes with him, which he was going to use to remake the Earth into a planet similar to Apokolips. However, Steppenwolf was defeated by the alliance of the Humans, the Olympian Gods, the Amazons, the Atlanteans and the Green Lantern Corps. The Mother Boxes were left on Earth and the Humans, the Amazons and the Atlanteans each took one of the Mother Boxes to guard. While the Amazons and the Atlanteans kept them safe, the Humans buried their Mother Box so that no-one could ever find it again.

Creation of Cyborg

However in 1982, S.T.A.R. Labs found one of the three Mother Boxes (presumably the one that had been given to the humans several millennia ago). 33 years later, in 2015, Silas Stone attempted to perform experiments on the Mother Box in order to help his severely injured son, Victor. Though nothing seemed to work, it eventually began pulsating, and he gave it to Victor, causing it to transform and began cybernetically repairing his son's badly damaged body.[3]

Ressurection of Superman

During the Second invasion of Earth, Bruce Wayne concocted a plan to use the Mother Box given to the Humans to ressurect the desceased Clark Kent as the newly formed Justice League needed him to help fight off Stepppenwolf and his armies. Although Diana and Arthur Curry were skeptical of doing this, Bruce continued with plan, while privately forming a contingency plan should anything go wrong. They took the Mother Box to the Genesis Chamber in Scout Ship 0344 where they lay Clark’s body in the chamber pool while Barry Allen used the Spped Force to create a massive electric charge, which triggered the Mother Box to work tandem with the chamber pool. The process was successful and Clark was ressurected, however he was at first quite delirious and confused, causing him to lash out on the team.

Capabilities

  • Biomechatronic Enhancement: A Mother Box was able to stabilize the critical condition of Victor Stone, reviving him from near-death and generating mechatronic limbs in place of the ones he had lost, as seen on the metahuman archive files collected by Lex Luthor. This process is seen to be extremely painful, as it grafts organic and inorganic parts together, effectively creating a cyborg.[3]
  • Resurrection: A Mother Box was able to be used, in tandem with the Genesis Chamber in Scout Ship 0344 and a massive electric charge (from the Flash), to resurrect the deceased Superman, though the process initially left the latter amnesiac, angry, and sinister.

Trivia

  • In a deleted scene called "Communion" (included in the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), the being standing before Lex as he is about to be arrested is holding two box-like objects in each of its hands before vanishing, suggesting that they are Mother Boxes and Lex had encountered Steppenwolf.
  • The Mother Box's code name is "US GOV object 6-19-82". The numbers can be interpreted as "June 1982", the month of publication of Cyborg's origin story in Tales of the New Teen Titans #1.
